Taking a body-first approach for stress and burnout recovery
Stress is inevitable, but you can set up your body to have more space to metabolize it. Healing happens in the body, when we learn to listen and support it.
In this work, you will learn to cultivate a deep relationship with your nervous system, your mind, and inner self. The somatic tools you will learn will allow you to support more nervous system regulation and create more space in your body to process stuck patterns that have been waiting to be resolved.
We will also learn how to listen to your body and create a life based on your capacity, while gently expanding it. Doing so, helps to reduce overwhelm due to stress, and ability to manage it better. This work will help in honoring your boundaries, speaking your truth, and feeling more at ease and safe in your body.
Methods used
-
Stress, shock, and trauma shows up in the nervous system and it’s dysregulation impacts your life. Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a gentle, body-oriented therapeutic model, that supports completion of self-protective responses and help with release of thwarated survival energy in the body.
By doing so, it address symptoms of trauma. This approach guides the client to slowly to develop an increase tolerance for difficult sensations and suppressed emotions, and works with completing the defensive responses that were once stuck, thus brining resolution to the nervous system.
-
We take an Internal Family Systems-Informed approach (aka Parts Work). This is a self inquiry approach to get to know the parts of you that protect you, and can get in the way of what you truly want. We help release the burdens they carry from the past, so they learn a new way of living. Doing so, you increase self compassion and self trust.
-
We address how nutrition contributes to your stress and what supports recovery. Although it’s not a main topic, we do discuss small steps on adding healthy nutrition to help with stress recovery.

Common questions about therapy for stress and burnout
-
Every person is unique and the time it takes depends on the nervous system capacity, how you apply the tools learned, and frequency of the therapy sessions. Some clients, when they’ve applied what they’ve learned, can start seeing results in 2 months - 6 months; however, some take longer than a year.
-
It’s recommended to come to therapy when you have the time and ability to do the work, so that way you can experience the results. It’s okay if now is not the right time. Come back when you are ready.
